Tips for Writers
When I meet people, it is a common occurrence that I get asked about tips for newbie writers. Each writer has their own set of tips they follow, so here are mine.
- Read, read, read – the best thing a newbie writer can do is read. Reading other author’s works can really help you define techniques and help find a hidden story.
- Use a notebook – using a notebook is so useful. You can write down the plot to your story or gather ideas from everyday things.
- Just write – you don’t want to be stuck looking for ideas forever. Take a chance, even if it’s just describing a potted plant.
- Cut out unneeded sections – if you’re doubting a section in your writing, then get rid of it, there’s no point keeping things that are going to waste.
- And, finally, enjoy writing – getting published is a hit or miss situation so don’t feel down if you’re dismissed by one publisher as there are many publishers out there just looking for a book like yours!
